Ethan’s Garden is a native species, pollinator - friendly Memorial Garden in support of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge; it was started by Christine and Joe Fonseca, and inspired by their son Ethan. Phase 1 planting started October 3rd, 2020. The garden is located beside the trail where Ethan used to roll, right here in the heart of Komoka Park. It is a living dynamic memorial for Ethan, and other members of our community who have passed. This garden is an informal place where we all can enjoy native plants, butterflies and other pollinators, and a place where we can remember loved ones, like Ethan, who are no longer with us.

We are settlers on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak  and Attawandaron Peoples, Treaty 21 territory, currently known as Middlesex Centre, Ontario, Canada. The First Nations people, Innuit and Métis have stewarded these lands and waters since time immemorial. They continue to do so today, facing generations of violent assimilation and erasure. To reconcile our relationship and restore harmony, we acknowledge the harms caused by colonialism and commit to listen to, honour, and integrate Indigenous wisdom, history and values into our pollinator habitat work.
