Middlesex Centre joins Bee City Canada
|
The buzz is real! Middlesex Centre is joining Bee Cities across Canada, pledging to protect pollinators and their habitats.
Council endorsed Middlesex Centre’s Bee City Canada Community designation at their meeting on September 17, 2025. The designation highlights the municipality’s ongoing commitment to protecting pollinators and promoting biodiversity through habitat creation, education, and community celebration. Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and other insects play a vital role in sustaining ecosystems and supporting agriculture. However, their populations are declining due to habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and disease. As a Bee City, Middlesex Centre will take meaningful action to support pollinator health, including:
“Becoming a Bee City and our going support of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge campaign are meaningful steps the municipality can take in protecting our natural environment and our agricultural systems,” comments Mayor Aina DeViet. “These efforts reflect our community’s values and our commitment to sustainability for future generations.” Residents are encouraged to get involved by planting native species in their gardens, and by participating in future events that support pollinator conservation. Community groups like the Middlesex Centre Pollinator Team offer great resources on how to start gardening with pollinator-friendly plants. |

Growing and sharing native plants from seed is one of our main goals. Supporting an eco-friendly environment, enjoying nature and promoting viable habitat for pollinators is our focus.
|
Butterflies and native bees are essential pollinators in the ecosystem we share. We celebrate the importance and beauty of all the pollinators, from birds to beetles to ants and more!
|
Education in our community about the interrelatedness of native and non-native species, including humans, and how to nurture healthy relationships is vital to our well-being and environment today and in generations to come.

Who is the Middlesex Centre Pollinator Team?

Mayor's Monarch PledgeIn October 2019, Mayor DeViet signed the Mayors' Monarch Pledge. Through the pledge, Middlesex Centre is committing to create habitat for the monarch butterfly and pollinators, and to educate residents about how they can make a difference at home and in our community. Thank you Mayor DeViet!

EducationMiddlesex Centre Pollinator Team understands that the goal to a sustainable eco-friendly future starts with building a foundation of knowledge and appreciation with our youth. Currently we are looking at developing programs presentable in our schools to entice our children's participation. We also promote information sessions regarding pollination and gardening native species in our communities. Enjoy the beauty of our encouragement to learn more, educate others and take pride knowing we can all make a difference! |
