“Knowing that you love the earth changes you, activates you to defend and protect and celebrate. But when you feel that the earth loves you in return, that feeling transforms the relationship from a one-way street into a sacred bond.”

About Us

Picture
Growing and sharing native plants from seed is one of our main goals. Supporting an eco-friendly environment, enjoying nature and promoting viable habitat for pollinators is our focus.
Picture
Butterflies and native bees are essential pollinators in the ecosystem we share. We celebrate the importance and beauty of all the pollinators, from birds to beetles to ants and more!

Education in our community about the interrelatedness of native and non-native species, including humans, and how to nurture healthy relationships is vital to our well-being and environment today and in generations to come.

Who is the Middlesex Centre Pollinator Team?

Middlesex Centre Pollinator Team was created in March 2019 to bring the Mayor's Monarch Pledge to our communities. A pledge created between Mexico, Canada and the USA, the platform is to educate communities about the plight of the Monarch Butterfly and other pollinators. Creating Monarch way-stations, selling native plants at the Komoka Market and holding Compost Days our team and platform has evolved into a brilliant community experience. Help us promote MIddlesex Centre as a leader in preserving and creating natural habitats to ensure a healthy population of all pollinators.

Mayor's Monarch Pledge

In October 2019, Mayor DeViet signed the Mayors' Monarch Pledge. Through the pledge, Middlesex Centre is committing to create habitat for the monarch butterfly and pollinators, and to educate residents about how they can make a difference at home and in our community. Thank you Mayor DeViet!

Education

Middlesex Centre Pollinator Team understands that the goal to a sustainable eco-friendly future starts with building a foundation of knowledge and appreciation with our youth. Currently we are looking at developing programs presentable in our schools to entice our children's participation. We also promote information sessions regarding pollination and gardening native species in our communities. Enjoy the beauty of our encouragement to learn more, educate others and take pride knowing we can all make a difference!

We are settlers on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak  and Attawandaron Peoples, Treaty 21 territory, currently known as Middlesex Centre, Ontario, Canada. The First Nations people, Innuit and Métis have stewarded these lands and waters since time immemorial. They continue to do so today, facing generations of violent assimilation and erasure. To reconcile our relationship and restore harmony, we acknowledge the harms caused by colonialism and commit to listen to, honour, and integrate Indigenous wisdom, history and values into our pollinator habitat work.
